Pilot
Bit
|
|
- Before beginning the cut, place a piece of duct tape or masking tape
- over the area to be cut. This will keep the pilot bit from “dancing”
across the porcelain.
- Be sure the size of the tape is smaller than the inside diameter of
the finish saw
- being used.

Saw

- For best results with the spring-loaded saw, use a slow RPM when
- scoring the porcelain. Typically a good range would be 300 RPM for
- the 7/8" diameter and 100 RPM for the 1-3/4" diameter.
- Be sure that all of the cutters are in contact with the porcelain.
This will help
- eliminate chatter and help avoid chipping of the porcelain.
- For longer life, score the porcelain only deep enough to see a “ring
of gray” in the kerf.
- Be sure the ring goes all the way around in the cut. Otherwise chipping
may occur.

- Never use water or oil when cutting through cast iron.
- The mud that develops will wear out the carbide inserts prematurely.
- Use fast speeds and light pressure when drilling through the cast
iron.
- This will allow for longer life and faster cutting. 1000 RPM is good
for the 7/8" diameter
- and 500 RPM for the 1-3/4" diameter. If vibration is a problem,
try a slower speed.
