Pilot Bit
  • Before beginning the cut, place a piece of duct tape or masking tape
  • over the area to be cut. This will keep the pilot bit from “dancing” across the porcelain.
  • Be sure the size of the tape is smaller than the inside diameter of the finish saw
  • being used.
Porcelain Saw
  • For best results with the spring-loaded saw, use a slow RPM when
  • scoring the porcelain. Typically a good range would be 300 RPM for
  • the 7/8" diameter and 100 RPM for the 1-3/4" diameter.

  • Be sure that all of the cutters are in contact with the porcelain. This will help
  • eliminate chatter and help avoid chipping of the porcelain.

  • For longer life, score the porcelain only deep enough to see a “ring of gray” in the kerf.
  • Be sure the ring goes all the way around in the cut. Otherwise chipping may occur.
Finish Saw
  • Never use water or oil when cutting through cast iron.
  • The mud that develops will wear out the carbide inserts prematurely.

  • Use fast speeds and light pressure when drilling through the cast iron.
  • This will allow for longer life and faster cutting. 1000 RPM is good for the 7/8" diameter
  • and 500 RPM for the 1-3/4" diameter. If vibration is a problem, try a slower speed.
